Here’s just a couple shots of the adult tables from the firefighter birthday party I posted last week. There were separate tented areas for the kids tables and round adult tables, brought together with similar colors and the firefighter theme!
All adults went home with cookie favors from Diddy Riese, a UCLA favorite. They also helped to decorate the table!
Custom signage directed guests to the drink table, set up with lemonade and flavored water.

After all of the grill outs, beers, and fireworks, do any of you feel like this today? This picture makes me smile thinking about the BBQs and fun back home this weekend. Living abroad, there’s many reminders of how glad I am to be an American. (I’m not going to break out in song.. promise!)

~ It’s beginning to look a lot like summer ~
This is my favorite season in Tokyo (and the perfect time to visit!) – the short few weeks with sunny, mildly humid days and warm nights before it gets scorching hot. I’m so happy to come home from my vacay to this perfect weather after some odd weather in the States. I’m ready to report back after my month of traveling back home for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, and just plain ol’ fun! In the meantime, I’ve also changed the theme of my blog. What’d ya think?

This year the cherry blossom trees are blooming earlier than ever! The warm weather and the holiday yesterday brought many Tokyoites out of hibernation to start hanami season – picnicking under the cherry blossoms. It’s already such a beautiful scene even though it’s only half bloom. If you’re visiting Tokyo, check out this great roundup of cherry blossom spots, but beware of the massive crowds. Ueno Park, for example, is expecting over 20 million visitors in the next few weeks!

I’m all about the dessert so when I plan a party, it’s hard for me to narrow it down to just one! Naturally, I love a dessert bar. It sweetens up the decor and adds anticipation for the rest of the meal. Plus, I love the guests’ ooohs and ahhhs as they investigate. This is especially great for kids – they light up when they spot the sweets, and it’s a great bribe to behave until the end of dinner!
Tip: finish cooking the desserts before your guests arrive. When the guests spot all of the sugar and butter that goes into some of these sweet treats, it can hold them back from fully enjoying the desserts later on. No reason to make your guests feel more guilty!
My dessert bar this time included vanilla cupcakes with strawberry cream cheese frosting, chocolate cream and banana cream pudding, treats for Japanese girls day (cherry blossom marshmallows, puffed rice, strawberry Pocky), and a cheese round topped with honey and dried fruit.
