Many places on Ishigaki have a laid-back island feel that’s just so darn relaxing and cute. It’s surprisingly under-developed, which makes you feel like you’re in the country – a countryside with an ocean view. One of my favorite spots that epitomizes this atmosphere is a little gelato shop MiruMiru. We went every day!
MiruMiru sits on the top of a hill overlooking Nagura Bay with a rooftop patio and a great open yard. The shop keeps an adorable pet calf in a pen in the back, making it a great spot for families with children or just a relaxing afternoon.
The gelato features local flavors like island banana, purple yam, milk, pineapple, tomato, and my favorite – salt & brown sugar. Even though it’s in a remote location, the gelato here rivals others in Tokyo like Grom or The Market SE1 in Shonan.
While you wait for your gelato, make sure to check out the cute details and the corner selling other local products like awamori jello, pickles, milk, yogurt, tomatoes, and cookies!
Open everyday from 10am – 6:30pm
*I recommend to go here by car. There’s also a stand at the Ishigaki airport lobby.
