Despite the obligatory frozen fingers and February snow, one thing I love about winter in Japan is strawberry season! Don’t you think strawberries are the best fruit to brighten up this horrible season? The happy red color turns my frown upside down, and they stay with us just past Valentine’s Day. Such a perfect pairing!
Around this time, you can walk past a market and be lured in by the smell of strawberries all the way across the road. I can never resist buying at least one pack, and that one pack of 10 strawberries will fill my whole refrigerator with such an overwhelming sweet fragrance. Japanese strawberries are really incredible!
And to make my heart skip another beat, the Japanese love stuffing daifuku with strawberries when it’s in season. Mmm Mmm Mmm. I picked these up for 180 yen each at a pop up store at Azamino Station. A bit expensive, but definitely worth the treat! What are your favorite winter treats?
